I&#8217;m looking forward to the day when, say, my minutes of reading or other forms of exercise count toward my banked minutes, depending on which direction English and his team take with future updates, but for now, I&#8217;m enjoying using it as-is. This could be a detriment for some, since you might not appreciate losing a streak because you&#8217;re configuring the settings in a way that works best for you, or in the case that you might even need unfettered access to an app for some reason. Most weeks, I end up with between 10 or 15 hours of banked, unused time before the reset hits. What I really like, though, is having to pre-determine how many minutes I give myself when accessing blocked apps.<\/p>\n<h3>Turn off notifications where you can<\/h3>\n<p>(If you ask me, a daily reset is for true self-improvement sickos and choosing to never reset it is the cheap way out. Weekly is the way to go!) When you use Steppin, you can trade your steps for minutes on your blocked apps at any time. I started using Steppin five months ago so I could write a review, but I ended up enjoying it so much that I&#8217;m now on a 158-day streak. Some folks even just delete their problem apps during the work day so they can at least concentrate on productivity during business hours. That gets tricky, of course, because accidents and emergencies do pop up, and you may want 24\/7 instantaneous access to your phone.<\/p>\n<p>I already work out a lot, as I&#8217;m a spin teacher and dedicated Peloton user, so before Steppin, I didn&#8217;t pay too much attention to my step count, though I knew there was still a health value in raising it. To test it out for the first few days, I only added two apps\u2014Instagram and a game called Project Makeover\u2014to my block list. Would that mean I couldn&#8217;t look at Instagram at all on a day where I didn&#8217;t hit my step goal?<\/p>\n<p>A few months later, Steppin was born, but though it&#8217;s still relatively new, English has already made some changes and is planning more for the future. Still, if streaks or gamification are things that keep you on track, it&#8217;s a nice feature. For me, that&#8217;s useful because I am a streak-motivated kind of person. You even feel kind of good about it, since you earned that time by doing something good for yourself.
